Welcome to Slab Design Union Architects

​

Slab Design Union is Alan Morrissey, an ARB registered architect with over 20 years of professional experience.

​

Alan studied at the Birmingham School of Architecture and the Oxford Brookes School of Architecture, where his thesis project was nominated for the RIBA Silver Medal. Alan became a registered architect in 2010.

​

At Slab Design Union, Alan encourages a collaborative, proactive, hands-on approach to design, working closely with clients, consultants, contractors and end-users to fully understand each project and deliver architecture that exceeds the brief and is environmentally and socially responsible.

​

Slab Design Union's experience includes housing for the Peabody Trust in London, a new entrance and reception building for St. Mary's School in Cannock, a pedestrian footbridge and cycleway crossing the River Irwell in Salford and private residential projects in Birmingham.

​

Alan's previous professional experience includes make architects, where he was part of the project team for The Cube at The Mailbox, Glenn Howells Architects, where he was the project architect for the Newman University Library and Entrance Building, the Vimto Gardens Residential Development and the Eastside Locks Student Housing development, ADP Architects, where he was the senior architect for the Newman University Estate Redevelopment Masterplan and Populous, where was the design manager leading the architectural team on the Stratford Gardens MSG Sphere in London.

LAMBETH GARDEN MUSEUM PAVILION

Client – The Garden Museum
Type – Civic
Location – Lambeth, London, UK
Status - Open Competition

This open competition for the design a new pavilion created a secure area for staff operations and a new landmark amongst the Lambeth Garden Museum grounds and wider Lambeth Gardens area. A soaring canopy provides solar shading and a strong visual marker when viewed from Lambeth Bridge, Lambeth Road and Lambeth Palace Road. The new pavilion is sited at the Southern Lambeth Road Edge to prevent overshadowing of adjacent listed buildings. Two 'pods' of 3.2m (widest) x 3.8m (longest), 9.5 sq. m (each side) contain the staff welfare area and a tool/ equipment store, with capacity for 10 people.
